Quantal Strife at the Doris McCarthy Gallery
U of T, Scarborough Campus - 19 January to 6 March 2006
Work by Scott Carruthers, Crystal Mowry, and Marc Ngui
Curated by Sally McKay
Do you like art, video games, brain teasers, graphic novels, zines and thinking about how the world works? Then this art show is for you!
Scott Carruthers draws... and draws, and draws. Working fast to bypass moments of self-censorship, he fills the walls with potent icons and pop-culture distopias.
Crystal Mowry creates her own miniature version of the Gardens of Versailles. A camera travels through this model of a fabricated landscape, broadcasting the point of view of tiny people riding in a tiny carriage.
Marc Ngui uses his skills as a cartoonist to diagram concepts from the hefty theoretical tome A Thousand Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari.

KOMA Designs
Toronto’s Best Décor Store (NOW Magazine ’05)
On display until March 16th, KOMA Designs has expanded and
would like to present Koma Gallery, Toronto’s only furniture gallery and exhibit space, which will focus on
multifunctionalism, simplicity and unique design.
Koma Gallery is the result of a passion for design combined with the desire and dedication to create a space
where independent local designers, with an alternative approach to mass production, can present their pieces
to be appreciated and acquired by design lovers, home owners and residents who look for individuality in their
décor. This is a place where furniture is seen as functional art.
Every 2nd Thursday of each
month Koma Gallery will open with a new exhibit encompassing a combination of 1 – 5 designers and have a
wine and cheese evening where individuals can meet and speak with the designers in person about their work.
