Our Adventures Downunder

Wednesday, December 7nd, 2005

We woke at a relatively normal time and were pretty groggy. Especially Sea, who was still coughing up some nasty stuff, but didn't sound as bad as I thought he would.

It was sunny and Sea's dad and stepmum had gone out, so I puttered around their beautiful home and took some pictures. The following is a bit of a tour...

Here's the front of the house. It looks quite unassuming from the outside. Most places in the area look very small and private and a lot of them are fenced in so you can't see them from the street. Almost all of them have different sorts of gables on the fronts.

The main entrance is off to the side, but the front porch is actually pretty big.

Inside the front door. The ceilings are quite high.

The home office is at the front of the house. More nice stained glass.

The main living room area. This is usually where we watch TV.

Dining room.

The big kitchen looking one way.

Kitchen looking the other way.

Looking back down the long hall towards the front entrance. I really like these
decorative things here on the ceiling.

This is the hall off the back kitchen.

Looking off to the right side of hall into the little courtyard.

Inside the little courtyard.
(You can't make it out too well but that's a lion covered in vines.)

To the left of the hallway there's a patio with a bbq.

I really like this stuff. I think it's called Baby's Tears and it grows all over the
ground at the sunny side of the house.

The hall leads to a large sitting room at the back.

Off to the side of that, there's a little reading area.

And off the back room, there's a bigger garden patio.

The gate on the patio leads to a pool!
There is an orange, mandarin and lemon tree growing back here.

Looking back towards the house.

A view of our room.

One of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in.
(Those are our travelling companions on the headboard.)

The beam of light is from a skylight, which are all over the house.

A crazy giant fern grows outside our window.

One of the many doves from next door. You can hear them all day long.

The rest of the day was pretty much spent setting up some computer equipment. We ran out to buy a wireless router and network card for one of the computers so we could all work throughout the house. Then we checked out a mall at Chadstone (Sea needed sunglasses) which was garguantuan. Probably the equivalent to Yorkdale with more sushi places. We didn't have much luck there, but at least it wasn't as busy and crowded as it might have been. But what a strange adjustment hearing Christmas carols being played to sales on shorts and sandals! Then we went to Malvern Central to pick up some groceries and Sea found his glasses at a drugstore. I looked for goldenseal for him, but had no luck. We found an herbal shop on the way back. I got very frazzled crossing the street with the traffic going the opposite way I was used to and drivers honking their horns, only to find that the strore was closed. All I had to do was see the big red "Closed" sign in the window from the car. I think that was my first big "jetlag moment" of the trip.

When we returned, Sea set up the wireless, we had a dinner of stuffed marrow (YUM!) and mixed fruit for dessert. Sea had a "Lemsip" (better tasting Neocitron) which knocked him right out, and off we went to bed.
